Tutorial #2 Alexis Bledel

#1 Danny Messer
This is a short and simple tutorial to lighten an image (nothing fancy)
From  to  

01. Crop image 100x100 px
02. Duplicate base twice, set both to screen 100%
03. Filter - Sharpen - unsharp mask Amount 50% (on the screen layers)
04. Make a new layer, fill with white and set it to softlight 70%
05. Duplicate base, drag it to the top and set it to soft light 100%
(This all depends on your base, some need more screen layers)

#2 Alexis Bledel
From  to

01. Crop image 100x100 px
02. Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation (ctrl+U) Saturation 40%
03. Duplicate base and set to screen 50%
04. New layer, fill with #98e2dc, set to soft light
05. New layer, fill with #85bece, set to Color burn06.
06. Duplicate base, drag it to top and set it to soft light 50%
07. New layer fill with #001640, set to exclusion 50%
08. Add some text and you're done

They're great. I have PSP, but I think I know how to use your instructions and figure out how to do it.

Your icons are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS

But i have a question. Is the icon supposed to be blue in the background. I followed the tut and got this

It works best on a grey background (like my base)
you could make the background around her grey by using a brush or a select tool and than try the tutorial.

You're icon looks pretty anyway :)

Love the second one! I like how it makes the image brighter and pop, but I thought I'd give it a try to give a darker look, and it worked great.

I am VERY new at making icons. I have photoshop elements 5.0. I have a question for you. I have seen this posted elsewhere and I am having a hard time figuring this out.

I see where you can duplicate a layer and where you can duplicate and image and what do you mean by set to screen? Thanks! Katrina

oh sorry never checked comments anymore

Incase you still need it:
If you right click on a layer you can select duplicate layer,
and than set the setting to screen
(it is set to normal... in the layers pallette on the right side in your photoshop)
